Diversity
Utah's Diverse Heritage 2800-002 Each student was required to write an eight page term paper selecting a topic regarding Utah, its history, its cultures, its identities, and its problems and provide a critical analysis of the subject. A list of potential topics were provided by the instructor and if interested in an alternative topic, approval from the instructor was needed. I chose the topic Mining in Utah, past and present. The following is a link to a copy of my term paper:

Reflective Writing
Writing this paper was a great learning experience for me. I was aware of some of the mining in Utah, primarily about Rio Tinto's Kennecott Bingham Mine, but I was not aware of the other many diverse elements the state of Utah has to offer. Copper, Gold, Silver, Coal, and Uranium are just but a few of the many elements available to us today. In Utah's early founding history, rich deposits of gold and silver attracted ambitious miners expanding the diverse community within the state. The value and wealth of copper, which is a by product of both gold and silver, wasn't really noticed and sought after until the era of electricity when it then came into high demand. Utah today is the United States second largest provider of copper! Completing this paper has expanded my personal knowledge and appreciation for mining in Utah, past and present, and how we benefit from it today.
