Intro to Statistics MATH 1040-007 This term project has allowed me to put together and apply all the methods and formulas learned within the course. My instructor gave my class the option to work either in a group or individually. I chose the latter. I first began with choosing a research question and then designed a method as to how I would collect the data. I then analyzed the results and presented the final product to my class. Reflective Writing
I quite enjoyed working on this assignment. Collecting the data was fun and of personal interest. I am currently a Flight Attendant for SkyWest Airlines and chose to see if there is a relation between the number of people booked for a CRJ200 aircraft and how long it takes to board. I purchased a basic stopwatch and timed the boarding process, starting the clock the moment the first passenger stepped onto the aircraft and stopped the clock just after the main cabin door had been closed. Every flight seemed different as I made my notes, making me think there could quite possibly be no relation. I collected the minimum 30 samples needed for the project and after I did all the math I was quite surprised. I had mathematically proven that there is a small relation between the two variables chosen. Being able to collect data on my own and convert the results into a mathematical statistic has given me a greater understanding and appreciation for statistics. I really enjoyed this class!
